Poppies 'run in Zonnebeke brings sport, nature and history together. The three distances are named after people connected to the area: the 5.5 kilometres carries the name of Alec Decouteau, the 13 kilometres that of captain VC Robertson and the half marathon that of Leonie Keignaert. The routes pass the castle park, the Polygoonbos and the Reutel valley, places firmly anchored in the history of this region. Entering in advance is compulsory and the number of participants is limited, which deliberately keeps the atmosphere small-scale and well looked after. The combination of woodland, open landscape and remembrance therefore adds up to more than a simple set of distances: every start here comes with a story.
