The Grote Veldloop is a cross-country race in the Het Grote Veld nature reserve, just outside Vorden. The course follows paths and unpaved tracks through a varied landscape of woodland, heath and farmland, partly across land owned by Natuurmonumenten. Terrain and surface set the rhythm here, not a flat stretch of asphalt. Runners choose between 7.3 and 15.8 kilometres, both a single lap and started together; before that, youngsters up to and including age thirteen run a 2-kilometre cross. Start and finish are at Free-wheel Sport en Recreatie on the Netwerkweg, within walking distance of Vorden station. Water and fruit are waiting at the finish and the long distance has an aid station on the way. Escorts on bicycles are not allowed.
