The Flakkeese Beer Mile is a track race on the AV Flakkee athletics track in Middelharnis, and the format is exactly as simple as it sounds: four laps of 400 metres, a mile in all, with a beer before each lap. Anyone who would rather not drink alcohol runs precisely the same race with a 0.0% version — the carbonation makes it barely any easier. It is a short race with a long tail: the first lap is a joke, the last two are not. The entry fee goes to KiKa, which funds research into childhood cancer, and the athletics club provides the track and the bibs.
