The Fish Potato Run links the fishing harbour of Urk with Emmeloord, the potato capital of the Noordoostpolder — hence the name. The main distance of eight English miles sets off from the harbour at Urk, the four miles starts further along in Tollebeek, and both finish in Emmeloord. The course runs over largely closed polder roads, dead straight and open, which makes the wind a factor of real significance. There are also children's races over various distances and a teen run of two kilometres. With some two and a half thousand participants this is the largest sporting event in the region. Finishers take home a bag of local potatoes alongside their medal. The event is organised by AV NOP.
