The Estafettemarathon runs from Schoonhoven to Nieuwpoort on public roads, with changeover points where the baton is handed on. A team counts one to five runners, and that lower bound is not a typo: anyone wanting to cover the whole marathon alone enters as a team of one. Every team brings its own accompanying cyclist riding behind the runner — that is required, not optional, and it turns the cyclist into a participant rather than a spectator. The start is at the Avantri athletics club on the Nieuwe Singel, at two in the afternoon; everyone has to be in by seven. The finish is on the Dam in Nieuwpoort.
