The 10Km de l'ULB is a campus race on the Solbosch site of the Université libre de Bruxelles in Ixelles, organised by the Cercle des Sciences and ULB Sports. The proceeds go to scientific research at the university. Anyone taking the name literally is in for a surprise: the course measures 9.9 kilometres with 102 metres of climbing, and the short version 5.2 kilometres with 50. Flat asphalt it is not — the campus sits in a rolling part of Brussels and you notice. The children set off at half past nine, the walkers at quarter past ten and the runners a quarter of an hour after that. The field is a mixture of students, families and recreational runners.
