The Zeebenenloop is a coastal race starting and finishing at Steiger 18 in the harbour of Blankenberge. There are four distances: a 1-kilometre kids' run for four to twelve-year-olds, a 5 and a 10 kilometres, and ten miles. The routes pass the sea dyke, the pier, the marina and the dunes; anyone running the ten miles also crosses the open expanse of the Uitkerke polders. Timing is electronic, but the course is not fully closed: marshals guide the runners and the traffic code still applies, although no level crossings or traffic lights are involved. The event is organised by a local carnival association.
