Kerstloop Brugge is an evening city race through the festively lit historic centre, starting and finishing on 't Zand. There are two distances: the 5 kilometres sets off at half past seven, the 7.5 kilometres three quarters of an hour later, so everyone can run at their own level. The course takes in the finest spots of the old town, with entertainment at some twenty locations along the way. Every participant receives an illuminated Christmas hat, which makes for a striking spectacle in the dark. The cobbles, narrow streets and December darkness of Bruges make pace less important here than atmosphere and attention. The proceeds go to charity, so the social side weighs as heavily as the sporting one.
