The Valkenburg Half Marathon sets off from the Theodoor Dorrenplein in Valkenburg aan de Geul and heads into the Limburg hills from there. Four distances are on offer for adults: 5 kilometres, 10 kilometres, 10 miles and the half marathon, alongside kids runs of 500 and 1,000 metres later in the day. The courses alternate paved and unpaved sections and lead through the nature areas around the town. Anyone choosing the half marathon faces the Keutenberg, a climb with stretches of twenty-two percent that ranks among the steepest in the Netherlands. The start times are staggered, with the shortest distance going first.
