The Trail des Vallées du Chevalier starts at the Wartet football ground and heads out to the rock faces and ravines of Marche-les-Dames. There are three distances, set off in reverse order: the 33 kilometres with a thousand metres of climbing at nine, the 21 with 660 at ten and the 10 with 350 at eleven. What gives this trail its reputation are the rope sections — in several places you haul yourself up on a rope, which is why the organisers strongly advise gloves. In between lie rocky ravines and a passage by the quarry. The 21 alternates steep climbs with rolling stretches that let the legs recover; the 10 is deliberately set up as an entry-level format.
