La Gelbressoise starts in Gelbressée, a village in the north-east of the Namur municipality, on the Rue Notre Dame du Vivier. The course is mixed: partly surfaced road, partly field tracks and paths, which makes it neither a road race nor a technical trail. There are three distances of 5, 12.8 and 20 kilometres, and the order is reversed — the longest leaves first and the shortest last, so that everyone comes in at roughly the same time. For children two short loops of 400 and 800 metres are laid out. The race falls on 11 November, late in the season, when the fields around the village usually lie wet and heavy.
