The Trail des Mochons sets off at the A la Fontaine hall in Laneuville-au-Bois, a hamlet of Tenneville in the Ardennes. It is an evening race: the 1-kilometre children's run goes at half past four, the 21 kilometres at five and the 10 kilometres at six, so that everyone comes in at roughly the same time. The 21 holds 720 metres of climbing, the 10 around 300 — steep for those lengths, and it comes from the wooded slopes around the village. At the end of June the last kilometre is run in low sun. The event is organised by the Centre Sportif de Tenneville.
