The Trail de la Sainte-Agathe is run in and around Laforet, in the municipality of Vresse-sur-Semois, where the Semois cuts deep through the Ardennes. There are four distances: 10 kilometres with 400 metres of climbing, 15 with 650, 25 with 1000 and 35 with 1600. That last ratio says enough — over forty-five metres of climbing per kilometre is steep by Belgian standards, and you feel it on the ascents out of the valley. The short distance, by contrast, stays manageable for anyone trying a trail for the first time. There are refreshments along the way; at the finish it stays with drinks and light catering, without further dressing up. ASBL L'Ardennaise organises the race.
