The Trail du Beaujolais Nouveau sets off from the Domaine provincial de Chevetogne, a provincial park near Ciney in the province of Namur. There are five distances: 6 kilometres with 200 metres of climbing, 11 with 250, 16 with 450, 21 with 650 and 32 with eleven hundred. That ratio makes the race steeper than the kilometres suggest — even the shortest has real climbing in it. The timing is unusual: the starts fall in the afternoon, between half past twelve and quarter to two, on the weekend the beaujolais nouveau is presented. Entry is in advance only, not on the day.
