The Bello Gallico is the winter ultra event in and around the Brabantse Wouden national park, with its headquarters at the Roosenberg in Oud-Heverlee. Runners choose 100 or 200 kilometres, walkers 80 or 160 — and the structure is elegant: the long versions consist of the same loop twice, run in opposite directions, so the second time round the course feels entirely different. The organisation works with an unsupported format, a GPS tracker and staffed checkpoints with care and food along the way. A pre-race dinner and a shared finish celebration frame the event. The first Bello Gallico dates from 2016 and was many trail runners' first encounter with the ultra distance.
