In Kessel-Station, a hamlet in the Antwerp municipality of Nijlen, the second Saturday in July is given over to the Championship of Kessel. The afternoon opens with the running race over 5 and 10 kilometres through the village streets, after which the same circuit is taken over in the evening by the retro race: a cycling event on vintage bikes, in matching period clothing, which gives the day its name and its idiosyncratic character. Because runners and riders share the same course and the same crowd, the sporting afternoon rolls straight on into a village party. Veloclub Torenven takes care of the organisation.
