The Natuurloop Zonnebeke runs across two days in December and holds six distances for adults, from 10 to 45 kilometres, plus a 3-kilometre Kidstrail on the Saturday afternoon. Starting is free: entrants set off whenever it suits them within the given hours, and no times are recorded. The course runs mainly on unpaved paths and links well-known places with stretches that are normally closed — depending on the distance you pass the castle grounds, the Polygone, the Reutelbos, the clay pits and the Gasthuisbossen. That makes it a long journey through the landscape rather than a race.
