The Maastricht Marathon is the running day that closes the Long Course Weekend in Maastricht: the days before are for swimming and cycling, and anyone doing all three earns the weekend title. Start and finish are on the festival grounds at the Lage Frontweg, where the arrival goes over a red carpet. The programme normally counts 5 and 10 kilometres, a half and a full marathon, plus a Kids Run — though the full marathon has not been run in every edition. The course combines the Maastricht old town with the Limburg countryside around it, which on the longer distances brings considerably more climbing than a Dutch road race usually holds.
