The Mollen Marathon is a marathon in Almere Buiten that stands out above all for what it leaves out. No changing rooms, no showers, no aid stations: participants are entirely self-sufficient. After an approach section come seven laps that together make up the marathon distance. Running is allowed, walking too, and with a time limit of eight hours there is room for both. The entry fee is eight euros and registration goes by email. What makes the race remarkable is its frequency: hundreds of editions have been run by now, several times a year, which makes the Mollen Marathon more of a continuing tradition than an annual event. Training and walking booklets are stamped, and a results list and certificate follow afterwards.
