The Meiloop is a village race in Nieuwkerken-Waas with the De Mispelaer sports hall on the Gyselstraat as its base: registration, changing rooms and cafeteria are all there. The afternoon opens with the youth events, split into three age groups covering roughly 675, 900 and 1225 metres in turn. The 5 kilometres follows, and half an hour later the 10 kilometres, which runs the same lap twice. The first three are honoured on every distance, including separately in each youth category, so younger runners have something real to race for. The set-up is classic and uncluttered: no fringe programme, but a proper race on the first of May.
