The Marathon Relais Nocturne is the night-time relay of BC Sport at Les Écuries du Jolibois in Fontaine-l'Évêque. Teams of five runners cover the marathon distance of 42 kilometres together, in successive turns over a loop that is run again and again. The race begins at seven in the evening and the field has until one in the morning, so by far the greater part of the relay takes place in the dark. It is a road race and emphatically not an ultra or a solo marathon: the team's rhythm, the changeovers and having to start up again after every wait decide the result here more than pure speed does.
