The Marathon Relais de la Citadelle revolves around a single one-kilometre lap in the Parc de la Citadelle in Liège, covered forty-two times. After every lap the runner decides: another one, or hand over. That makes it not a relay with fixed legs but a tactical race — whoever feels strong carries on, whoever needs to recover swaps out. A team numbers at most seven, and running the whole thing alone is allowed. There are three categories: Performance for teams chasing a time, Fun for those mainly wanting to do it together, and a half version of 21 laps. Entry is per team and cheaper in advance than on the day.
