The Maasrun runs through the streets of Lanaken and along the Maas, with greenery and entertainment along the way. The programme falls into two halves: the competition distances of 5, 10 and 21.1 kilometres go around midday, and only in the late afternoon do the 2.5 kilometres and the kidsrun follow. Anyone coming with children therefore has time to run first. In 2026 the half marathon doubles as the Limburg and Flemish championship, which brings a faster field to that distance than an ordinary village race. There is chip timing on the main distances, water on the course, showers and bag storage. The event is organised by the municipality of Lanaken.
