The Lierdeloop is the village race of Hemelveerdegem, part of the municipality of Lierde in the Flemish Ardennes. The Sint-Jansplein is the heart of the evening: the start and finish are there, and so is the funfair the race forms part of. The course is a rolling, traffic-free loop of 3.3 kilometres with views over the rural Lierde countryside; you run it once, twice or three times, for 3.3, 6.6 or 9.9 kilometres. The youth races go first in the early evening, after which the adults set off. Afterwards the field moves on to the fairground, which makes the race as much a village party as a competition.
