The Kersenrun is run in the standard-tree orchard of the Kersenhut on Groenewoudseweg in Cothen, as the sporting part of the Kersenfestival. The start and finish lie among the cherry trees and the routes run largely on unpaved paths past the fruit, which makes the going softer and more uneven than an ordinary road race. There are four distances: 750 metres for children up to ten, 1500 metres for children up to fifteen, and 5 and 10 kilometres for everyone else. The festival itself runs all day on the same grounds, so participants tend to linger afterwards among the stalls and the orchard.
