The Joustermerkeloop sets off on the Pasteurweg in Joure and heads into the water-rich countryside. What gives the course its own rhythm is the surface: alongside paved road there is about four kilometres of shell path, which runs noticeably heavier and softer than asphalt. There are three distances of 7, 10.2 and 16.1 kilometres, the two shortest setting off together. The youth programme is free and split into three age groups, from 340 metres for the smallest to 1700 metres for the oldest. The event is organised by AV Heerenveen.
