The Gaasterlân Run is the Frisian winter race from Balk, with four distances: 7.5 kilometres, 12 kilometres, a half marathon and a full marathon. All routes run through Gaasterland, over flat paths that make the event accessible to a broad field. The number of aid stations rises neatly with the distance: one on the 12 kilometres, two on the half and four on the full marathon. Start and finish are at the Balk football club, and timing is by chip at both start and finish. The three fastest take home a lasting memento. It remains a plain, purposeful race in which you decide for yourself how far you want to go in December.
