The Hemmeromloop has fallen on the last Sunday of August for almost forty years and links the villages of Hem and Venhuizen in the municipality of Drechterland. Two distances are on offer for adults, 5 and 10 kilometres, alongside a kids run and a toddlers' run for the very youngest. The course was recently renewed and leads through the open West Frisian landscape around both villages. Anyone arriving by car parks on the Westerkerweg, some five hundred metres from the start and finish. The long tradition and the fixed date make the race a familiar end to the summer in the area.
