The HEMA IJzeren Man Volksloop is not an annual race but a monthly fixture: AV Weert puts it on the first Sunday of every month, all year round. Start and finish are at the little beach in front of the Hertenkamp on the Geurtsvenweg, with late entry at the swimming pool next door. The routes run through the IJzeren Man nature area, along water and woodland. You pick your own distance: 1.3 and 2.6 kilometres for the youngsters, and 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 16 above that — the 4 is open to both groups. Times are recorded, but the set-up stays that of a people's run you simply turn up to.
