The Heiderun is the running event of the Heideweek in Ede, starting and finishing on the barracks grounds in front of the Akoesticum. The programme runs from short to long: first two kids runs over 700 and 1,400 metres, then the half marathon, followed by the 12 kilometres and finally the 6 kilometres. Because the longest distance sets off first, participants come in at roughly the same time. The routes leave the built-up area quickly and lead through the countryside around Ede, with the heathland as a recognisable backdrop. The race forms part of the wider Heideweek programme, so there is plenty going on in town during those days anyway.
