The Groene Halve Marathon of Hamont-Achel has run since 1985 and keeps to a fixed structure: first a children's race, then the 5 kilometres, the 12 kilometres and finally the half marathon. The 5 kilometres stays in the centre of Hamont and consists of three loops; the 12 kilometres shares part of its course with the half. That half links Hamont and Achel and is officially measured, which means Flemish and Limburg titles are decided on it as well — alongside a series for recreational runners. The course is flat and paved, with four aid stations along the way. Changing rooms are housed in the De Posthoorn sports hall close to the start and finish, and every participant receives a medal.
