The Gravelduatlon of Vlimmeren is a classic duathlon in three parts: first 6 kilometres of running, then 30 kilometres of gravel and finally another 3 kilometres on foot. Together that makes thirty-nine kilometres. The cycling leg does not run over tarmac but over gravel roads and tree-lined lanes in Beerse and Lille, which means tyre choice and bike handling count in a way they would not in an ordinary duathlon. Start and finish are at De Pegger on the Wetschot. The race sets off in the early afternoon and is put on by LYFF events. The closing three kilometres, after thirty on the gravel, often decides the result in practice.
