Dam Tot Damloop

About the race

The Dam tot Damloop covers ten English miles from Amsterdam to Zaandam, starting on the Prins Hendrikkade and finishing by the Zaan at the Burcht. That the start and finish lie in different cities defines its character: this is not a lap but a crossing. Early on the route the IJ tunnel is opened specially for runners — a stretch no pedestrian otherwise sees — after which the course runs through residential streets and along dikes to Zaandam. The weekend holds more than the main distance: on Saturday evening there is the Damloop by Night over five miles, and alongside them the Mini Dam tot Dam runs and a Business Run. The fortieth edition is organised by Le Champion; the mile distances usually sell out well in advance.
