Coalminers' Trail & Walk

About the race

Coalminers' Trail & Walk uses the mining slag heaps of Thorpark in Genk as the setting for a solid trail and walking day. The 7, 15, 21 and 30 km routes head towards the woods and terrils, with every distance climbing 450 steps to the top of the slag heap. At the summit, participants get a panoramic view over Genk and the surrounding area; near the end, the route includes the distinctive passage beneath the mine shaft. The mix of industrial heritage, steep stairs, unpaved sections and the choice between running and walking gives the event a clear identity. It is accessible but demanding, made for participants who enjoy nature, mining history and a real physical challenge.
