The Brandweer TRAIL sets off from the Zottegem fire station and is carried by that station's own social club. There are three distances — 5, 12 and 25 kilometres — running over the quiet back lanes around Zottegem: field tracks, sunken lanes and unpaved paths rather than tarmac. There is no gun. Between half past eight and twelve you leave whenever it suits you, which means you decide for yourself whether to go early or arrive at leisure. The entry fee covers the refreshments along the way and a goodie bag. The fire station as start and finish gives the whole thing a recognisably local character.
