The Besox Abdijentocht runs on Ascension Day through the De Merode nature area, between the abbeys of Tongerlo and Averbode. The 16 kilometres is point-to-point: you set off at Sporta Spot Kempen in Tongerlo and finish at Domein De Vijvers in Averbode. That takes planning, because you park at the finish and take a shuttle bus to the start — the last bus leaves at two, while the run sets off at three. Walkers can cover the same 16 kilometres with a free start in the morning, or take the 33 kilometres, which loops out of Averbode and therefore needs no shuttle at all. The event is part of the Nature Trail Series.
