The Mijnentocht runs through the mining past of Beringen and Heusden-Zolder, over four distances: 8, 16, 21 and 31 kilometres. The slag heaps here are not scenery but the course itself — they supply the climbing, the views and the industrial character. Away from those heaps it goes over forest roads and unpaved stretches; there is hardly any tarmac. The 8 kilometres stays an accessible loop around Beringen, while the longer distances leave the town and take in several aid stations along the way. The whole thing therefore feels more like a climbing and nature tour than a road race. It is organised by Golazo Sports together with the city of Beringen.
