The 30 km through the Sonian Forest sets off from the sports centre on the Waversesteenweg in Oudergem and consists of a single loop through the woods. More than ninety per cent of that loop is unpaved and it holds 529 metres of climbing — no mountain work, but enough continuous up and down to break your rhythm. There are three refreshment posts along the way. Runners start in two groups, at nine and half past nine, and you get seven hours to finish. That generous limit is there for a reason: the same thirty kilometres is open to walkers as well, who simply take longer over it.
