The 17.55 km van Gooik is the nature run put on by the Chiromeisjes of Gooik, starting and finishing on the old athletics ground. The programme opens with the long trail over 17.55 kilometres, followed half an hour later by the 7.55 kilometres; after that come the children's run of around 600 metres and the walkers, who pick their own moment from a quarter to eleven onwards. The routes seek out the unpaved paths around Gooik: rolling, rural and muddy in places, but without technical climbing. A Chirocafé stands by the start and finish area, where participants and supporters linger. That makes this as much a village day as a race.
