Ultra Trail Kempen is an ultra trail through the heart of the Antwerp Kempen, based at the Mintjens sports hall in Malle. Runners choose between 50 kilometres, 100 kilometres and 100 miles; the longest distances run on into the night and over into the following day. The course seeks out vast forests, heathland, ponds and narrow single track, passing old forest lanes, quiet chapels and the characteristic sandy soils of the Kempen. The field is capped at four hundred participants, which makes the atmosphere restrained rather than spectacular: not a mass event, but a journey that asks above all for endurance and mental resilience. The aid stations are a second hallmark — they are known for their warmth and local hospitality.
