The Triathlon of Eibergen is an eighth-distance triathlon in the Achterhoek, with 500 metres of swimming in the Berkel, 22 kilometres of cycling in laps through the countryside and 5.5 kilometres of running to the finish. That the swim takes place in flowing water sets the race apart from a pool triathlon: the Berkel has a say in how fast you move. Spectators follow the swim from the bank and the finish from the terrace of the Muldershuis, so most of the race plays out within a few hundred metres. The event is organised by the foundation of the same name. The field is capped and usually fills up, with a waiting list for anyone who is late.
