Trail La Fontinoise starts in Fontin, a hamlet of Esneux in the Ourthe valley south of Liège. There are four distances and the elevation rises sharply with them: 9 kilometres with some 200 metres of climbing, 17 with 420, 24 with 750 and 35 with 1,100. That last figure means more than thirty metres of ascent per kilometre, which makes the longest distance a genuine climbing trail. The start times fall in the afternoon, with the 35 kilometres first and the 9 kilometres last. Each course has two hundred places. The entry fee is kept low and there is no age limit; anyone signing up on the day pays two euros extra.
