The Strandloop Knokke-Heist is run entirely along the low water line, on the hard sand the sea has just left behind. Start and finish are on the sports beach at Heist, level with the Kardinaal Mercierstraat. Every distance is an out-and-back: the 2 kilometres for children up to twelve covers five hundred metres towards Knokke and back, twice; the 5 kilometres turns at the casino on the Sterrenlaan; and the 10 kilometres carries on to Het Zoute with a turning point at the Wielingen. On an empty beach those turning points are the only thing anchoring your sense of distance. Reusable cups are handed out at the turns. Sportdienst Knokke-Heist organises the race.
