The Smokkelaars Trail runs through the border country between Tilburg, Goirle and Belgian Poppel, largely over paths that once genuinely served as smuggling routes. Start and finish are on the Rocks & Rivers grounds on the Gorpsbaantje in Goirle. There are four distances — 8.7, 12, 21 and 27 kilometres — and on the longer ones you cross the border and come back. The course alternates coniferous and deciduous woodland with small lakes and heathland, and the organisers rate it moderately difficult: no mountain work, but enough changes of surface to break your rhythm. The trail is one of the four races in the Brabantse Trailserie.
