Sahara City Run

About the race

The Sahara City Run starts and finishes on the market square of Lommel and links the town centre to the Sahara, the dune and heath area on the edge of town. You choose between 6, 10 and 16 kilometres; children up to twelve run a kids run of 400 or 800 metres in the afternoon. Along the way town-centre streets alternate with Sahara sand, pine woods and heath, past the lookout tower and over the event's own bridge, laid across the water in the Sahara with help from the Lommel scouts. The course also runs straight through De Kroon, the oldest café in town. The organisers change the route every year, so anyone coming back does not get the same thing twice. More than two thousand participants take part.
