The Rivierenland Run & Walk starts at the Hazewinkel rowing course in Willebroek and shows off the Rupel region, an area little known to the wider public. There are three distances of 8, 14 and 23 kilometres, and each can be covered either running or walking — you choose which when you enter. The course alternates paved stretches with a great deal of unpaved path and passes meadows, brook valleys, marshland and the blue bridges, as far as the point where the Dijle, Nete and Zenne rivers meet. Walkers get their own open start window; for the runners there is electronic timing.
