The Nieuwpoort Marathon closes the Long Course Weekend: Friday is for swimming, Saturday for cycling and Sunday for running, and anyone doing all three earns the full weekend title. Taken on its own, this is simply a road race with four distances — 5 and 10 kilometres, half and full marathon — plus a children's run. The course runs through Nieuwpoort and the polders behind it, with the sea close by and little shelter from the wind that almost always blows there. All distances finish at the same point, on the red carpet of the festival square, where the rest of the weekend comes in too.
