Nacht van Vlaanderen is a major evening running and walking event in Torhout, with the running programme offering the 5 km Start to Run, 10 km Tom Compernolle, half marathon and marathon. From the area around the Stedelijk Sportcentrum and Zaal De Mast, runners follow fast, paved courses through the town centre; the longer races also head towards Groenhovebos and Veldegem. The marathon is the oldest marathon still organised in Belgium, and the 10 km gains extra status in 2026 with the Belgian Championship. Its mix of history, crowds and night-time atmosphere makes the race appealing for recreational runners as well as ambitious competitors.
