The Maredsous Summer Trail sets off at the Maredsous abbey in Denée and heads into the Molignée valley, over forest and field paths around the abbey estate. There are seven distances, from 8 to 80 kilometres, and the climbing rises with them: from 175 metres on the shortest to over 2250 on the longest. The starts are therefore far apart — the 80 goes at six in the morning, the 8 not until eleven. With that range one event serves both someone running their first trail and someone running through the night, and those two meet on the abbey square but never on the course.
