L'Ascension au cœur du barrage is run at the Gileppe dam in Jalhay, in the province of Liège, on the initiative of the Verviers firefighters' association. The format combines a six-kilometre jogging with a climb, which sets it apart from the ordinary village joggings of the region: there is a pronounced vertical element to it. The setting does the rest. The Gileppe is the oldest dam in Belgium, known for the giant stone lion on its crest, and the lake behind it is hemmed in by forest. A short race, then, but one with real height gain and a place you will not forget in a hurry.
